Fixed Vacuum Contact Switches

Watteredge High Current Shorting Switch assemblies are designed to overcome the deficiencies of conventional shorting switches presently used in electrolytic cell applications such as chlor-alkali and metals refining. The normally open shorting switch application in these industrial environments is very problematic for traditional open air contact switches. The highly corrosive environment corrodes or otherwise compromises the open exposed contact surfaces. The patented Watteredge Vacuum Contact Switch design overcomes this shortcoming of other switch types by hermetically sealing the contact surfaces in a vacuum environment.

The advantage of using high current, low voltage, DC vacuum switches for cell bypassing in electrolytic processes has been proven in these industries since 1975.

Switch assemblies are designed in arrangements of one to multiple vacuum contact modules. This provides the capability of shorting 6kA, 12kA, 18kA, 24kA or 30kA, respectively. The switches have the capability to be ganged and driven from a common shaft for larger ampacity requirements of 400kA or more.
